One Direction deny rumours they've split up

The band are currently enjoying an 'extended hiatus'

Amidst dogged rumours that One Direction's "extended hiatus" is merely a transition towards a permanent split, a source close to the band has denied that the band are calling it a day.

The four-piece (formerly a five-piece, of course, but Zayn Malik quit back in March) announced their hiatus last year, after a gruelling world tour and album promotion cycle. They're barely stepped out of the limelight since they formed on The X Factor back in 2010.

They've since been the subject of much rumour and speculation though - prompted by news that Harry Styles had registered solo material, and that Liam Payne was working with Juicy J - that they've actually split.

US Weekly recently reported that the band had decided "not to renew their recording contract" at the end of last year, though Niall Horan told Entertainment Tonight, "We're not breaking up. We're literally taking time out to see our friends and see our family, and reflect on what we've done over the last few years."

Now, a source has told Billboard: "Nothing has changed regarding hiatus plans for the group, and all will be revealed in due time from the band members' own mouths."
