Zayn Malik has beaten One Direction's US chart records with his first single as a solo artist.
MTV reported that Malik’s first solo single, ‘Pillowtalk’ debuted at No.1 in the US; a feat never achieved by 1D or any UK artist, for that matter. The boyband’s ‘Best Song Ever’ reached No.2 in 2013 in the US chart, which was the closest they came to scoring a chart-topping Billboard Hot 100 single.
‘Drag Me Down’, which was recorded after Malik left 1D peaked at the No.3 spot.
In the UK, Malik has claimed the fastest selling single of 2016 with his debut solo single after selling 112,000 copies within its first week of release. Malik’s debut solo album, Mind of Mine, will be released in March.

Malik also made headlines recently by stating that he “never really wanted to be in One Direction”.
