Kendrick Lamar has revealed that Prince almost appeared on his latest chart-topping album, To Pimp A Butterfly.

Lamar made the revelation on a new oral history on the album from the Grammys. Rapsody, who sang the hook on the final cut of ‘Complexion’, claimed that Prince was intended to do the hook originally.

Lamar later confirmed that to be true, adding that Prince loved the track but they spent too much time talking in the studio, so they ran out of time to record anything.

“That’s true. Prince heard the record, loved the record and the concept of the record got us to talking,” said Lamar. “We got to a point where we were just talking in the studio and the more time that passed we realized we weren’t recording anything. We just ran out of time, it’s as simple as that."

Kendrick Lamar is set to headline this year’s Longitude Festival, along with The National and Major Lazor.

Prince also made headlines recently as he it was revealed that he used to be the butt of the joke for Michael Jackson. The King of pop reportedly used to laugh at videos of the Purple One messing up.
