Rumours of a reunion of The Smiths were quickly quashed, as former frontman Morrissey took online to pour scorn upon the creation of a new official Twitter account for the band.
This week, fans grew excited when a verified account for the 'Ask' and 'This Charming Man' stars appeared online. There were hopes that it could mean new activity from the group, and that perhaps they may be getting back together. However, that was soon put to bed when the band's label revealed that they were in control and that it was purely for promotional purposes:

Now, Morrissey has weighed in, taking to fan-site and his official mouth-piece True-To-You to say: "A Smiths/Morrissey Google alerts/Twitter account has been opened by Warner UK.
"Morrissey would like to stress that this account has not been sanctioned by him and has no connection to him. Follow it at your peril."
Recent years have seen Morrissey make headlines with his battle against cancer, controversial comments against Barack Obama and claiming that he was 'groped' by airport security staff.
Back in 2014, George Michael claimed that The Smiths would be getting back together too.
The Smiths themselves, who split up back in 1987, have consistently played down rumours of a reunion. In fact, when we asked Johnny Marr about it at the Ivor Novellos a few months back, his response was short but to the point.
Meanwhile, when he's not winning the 'Bad Sex Award', Morrissey has been 'seriously considering running for London Mayor.
