John Lydon has hit out to slam Malcolm McLaren's son Joe Corre for his plans to burn £5million of Sex Pistols' memorabilia - calling him a 'selfish fucking lingerie expert'.
Johnny Rotten, also frontman of Public Image Ltd, was speaking to Metro about Corre's plans for the stunt to celebrate 40 years of punk on 26 November. Corre also happens to be the founder of lingerie brand Agent Provocateur.
"If you're going to destroy £5 million worth of anything, isn't it better to sell it and give the money to charity?," he said. "You selfish fucking lingerie expert. Why don't you burn your own bra?"
Speaking of the wider plans to celebrate punk, he continued: "It's been marked by people who were insignificant to it when it was happening - people such as Boris Johnson. They didn't have to go through it and endure it. They come along late and make comments about burning this, that and the other."
Lydon added: "It makes me nostalgic that people are getting it wrong. I've got too much to be getting on with to be nostalgic."
On his plans to burn the memorabilia, Corre said: "The Queen giving 2016, the Year of Punk, her official blessing is the most frightening thing I’ve ever heard. Talk about alternative and punk culture being appropriated by the mainstream. Rather than a movement for change, punk has become like a fucking museum piece or a tribute act."
"A general malaise has now set in amongst the British public. People are feeling numb. And with numbness comes complacency. People don't feel they have a voice anymore. The most dangerous thing is that they have stopped fighting for what they believe in. They have given up the chase. We need to explode all the shit once more."
