Sharon Osbourne has caused controversy for attacking the parents of Madeleine McCann in a new interview.

The music managers, former X Factor judge and ever-outspoken wife to Ozzy Osbourne was appearing on US chat show The Talk when she claimed that Gerry and Kate McCann leaving their three-year-old daughter alone while they were on holiday prior to her disappearance was 'insane'.

"I will tell you a very quick story," she said. "There was a husband and wife on holiday in Portugal. They left their baby in the room sleeping, sleeping while they went to dinner in the restaurant.

"While they were in the resort their baby was taken. And it is like, ‘Oh but we can see everything that is going on’ and it is, like, insane."

A source close to the McCann's then responded to The Mirror: "She should think about the effect it could have on Madeleine’s brother and sister, as well as the wider family. Kate and Gerry have never forgiven themselves and this should not have been aired in a random way, as it apparently was.

"It’s based on ignorance of the true facts. While she’s entitled to her view she should keep it to herself."

However, many on Twitter have since come out on Twitter in support of Osbourne:

Madeleine McCann has been missing since 3 May 2007, where she was allegedly abducted in Portugal. The search continues.

Sharon Osbourne meanwhile, recently confirmed her separation from husband Ozzy - before appearing alongside him to announce a huge festival headlined by him and Slipknot.
