It's become so commonplace at gigs these days - where you're more likely to see a sea of mobile phones rather than lighters or crowdsurfers. However, that may soon be coming to an end, thanks to none other than Apple.
Over the years, the likes of Prince, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Savages, Jack White and Kate Bush have all banned the use of phones at their gigs - while we've all been at shows where artists have spoken out to urge fans to put their mobile devices away.
Now, as 9To5Mac and Patently Apple report, Apple has received approval on a patent for technology with the capability to disable a phone's camera and video settings.

However, the technology also has other uses. It can also precent people hacking into phones, as well as providing extra information when nearing infra-red signals while at museums or perhaps airports.
Perhaps if this technology is used for blocking phones at gigs, one would assume it would only be for artists who opt for it? Maybe it would be of more practical use at airports or high security events? Time will tell...
