In September last year, Gorillaz announced that "the gang is back". Since then we haven't seen any new music although there is an album thought to be released this year.
Mid-2016 Jamie Hewlett spoke on behalf of the band saying that the album was “really fucking special” and couldn’t be rushed. This is good reason to take one's time and we're not complaining if it means it's going to be all the better for the wait.
To keep us guessing as to how it might turn out, Noodles has shared a playlist of inspirational "kick ass" women, "who in their own individual ways are true pioneers in the writing, production and creation of MUSIC. They have inspired me (Noodles), and I hope they inspire you too."
Noodles used Instagram to promote the 28 minute playlist which she created on Soundcloud. It features12-track mix includes 'REALiTi' by Grimes and 'O Superman' from Laurie Anderson, as well as selections from synthpop songwriter Empress Of, acclaimed composer Mica Levi, and Kuwaiti electronic musician Fatima Al Quadiri.
One name that stands out as well is Anna Meredith. The Scottish born, London-based singer is easily one of the most promising names in popular music.
She’s known as a successful classical musician and has taken a diversion into avant-garde pop and techno. Her debut album, Varmints was released this year via Moshi Moshi, and it is an astounding collage of sound.
There's elements of Jean Michel Jarre, Hudson Mohawke, Grumbling Fur, and chaotic low-bit video game soundtrack. Meredith never listens to music for inspiration, though; these comparisons are simply signposts as her inspiration comes from within and through her incredible band members who play a mixture of classical and pop instruments; she’ll blow you away.
