Appearing on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Metallica's James Hetfield revealed his reasoning behind his move from San Francisco to Colorado
“I kind of got sick of the Bay Area, the attitudes of the people there, a little bit. They talk about how diverse they are, and things like that, and it’s fine if you’re diverse like them,” he said.
The Metallica frontman has always been open with his interest in hunting, as well as revealing he’s a member of the National Rifle Association. "But showing up with a deer on the bumper doesn’t fly in Marin County. My form of eating organic doesn’t vibe with theirs.”
“I felt that there was an elitist attitude there - that if you weren’t their way politically, their way environmentally, all of that, that you were looked down upon,” he explained.
Reflecting on his recent move, Hetfield went on to explain, “I think in Colorado, everyone is natural; people are not playing some game, they’re not posturing…And they’re less obsessed with stopping what you’re doing and more enjoying what they’re doing.”
“I love the ocean, and I love the Bay Area, I love what it’s got to offer, but there’s just an attitude that it was…It wasn’t healthy for me. [I was] starting to feel like I was just fighting all the time, and I just had to get out of my own head. So Colorado does it for me."
In November this year, Hetfield responded to a number of celebrities pictured wearing Metallica t-shirts via Buzzed Mexico, including the likes of Taylor Momsen, Avril Lavigne, Ryan Gosling, and Kim Kardashian, to which he jokingly says “That’s Kanye West right? In drag?” He also joked that Ryan Gosling’s song would be ‘Hardwired To Self Destruct’, also calling Taylor Momsen a “goth Madonna”.
