A woman has been jailed for playing Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ on a loop at high volume.
ITV reports that Sonia Bryce, from Willenhall, subjected her neighbours to hell by playing Sheeran’s ubiquitous Number One hit repeatedly at a high volume and so causing a “wholly unacceptable level of disturbance,” according to the judge who jailed her.
Her landlords, Walsall Housing Group Ltd, secured a court order barring her from creating a nuisance or annoyance.
She had been previously arrested for breaching the injunction and was given a six-week sentence in December. However, once she was back home she played ‘Shape Of You’ continuously for half an hour and at high volume to the annoyance of her neighbours. Following a series of complaints, she was back in court.
This time she was given an eight-week sentence by a judge who told her: "You must learn that you should behave as a reasonable and responsible adult and not make life for your neighbours the misery that you have."
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ is now enjoying its ninth week at the top of the UK singles chart. The singer-songwriter also occupies the number two and three slots as well as eight – count ‘em! – places in the UK top 30.
He’s followed closely by Drake who’s nabbed six places in the UK top 30. If ever you wanted a vision of hell then this is it. As previously reported on Gigwise, Drake is the now the most streamed pop star on the planet after notching up more than 10 billion streams on Spotify alone.
Sheeran’s global domination will also take in Worthy Farm this summer. As reported elsewhere within the pixelated pages of Gigwise, he’ll join fellow headliners Radiohead and Foo Fighters at this year’s Glastonbury festival in June.
