Wiz Khalifa has incurred the wrath of Colombia after the rapper posted a picture of himself smoking what appears to be a joint at the grave of cocaine boss Pablo Escobar.

The Associated Press reports he also took time to lay flowers at the crimelord’s grave after he’d performed in the city of Medellin. Khalifa posted the picture on and has come under a hail of criticism from Colombian nationals.

danisalerno13 said: “I understand that you are rich and famous and think you can do whatever you want in life, but don't be stupid. Pay some respect for the people that died during the war against narcos, pay respect to a country that's trying to get out from all the economic and cultural problems that this time marked.”

He added: “RESPECT AND DON'T BE STUPID. Do what you want in your country but don't come to insult my Medellin and my Colombia. THINK!!!”

mara_ramos87 posted: “I have to say something about this. Be an example by creating good songs not by glorifying bandits. Remember to represent the best for your children.”

Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord and trafficker whose cartel supplied an estimated 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States alone at the height of his career. He was turning over annual figure £22b in personal income. By the mid 1980s, he was shipping around 70 to 80 tons of cocaine to the US each month.

His drug network was known as the Medellín Cartel and at the height of his notoriety, Colombia became the murder capital of the world. He was shot and killed in 1993 by the Colombian National Police, one day after his 44th birthday.
