Royal Blood: 'We thought we were too heavy for radio'

Rising rock duo on their surprise at major label interest, at The Great Escape

Royal Blood make so much noise, that you would be forgiven for thinking there were more people involved than simply just Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher. They sound nothing like a two-piece and are successfully ressurecting the kind of guitar music that makes Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss fans go weak at the knees.

However, the band are still very much operating outside of the mainstream, and despite having been tipped for big things in 2014, are still surprised at their widespread appeal. "Everything on the radio and all of the music that was coming out was not riff-based rock," front man Mike Kerr told us, when we spoke to Royal Blood at The Great Escape festival. "So we were surprised when we had interest from the music industry and we're still surprised that we're even on the radio to be honest with you. We thought we were a bit too heavy for that."

Royal Blood's Out of the Black EP is currently available for download.
