Beloved of stoners and students everywhere, Bob Marley is now finally getting an official cannabis line.
The Marley family will launch 'Marley Natural' in 2015 "inspired by our father's love for one of nature's greatest plants. They plan to offer hemp infused lotions, herb heirloom cannabis strains and accessories which presumably will featuring Bob toking heavily.
The mission statement on the brand's website, seemingly written by a very high person, offers the following: "Like many visionaries, Bob Marley was ahead of his time. What he sang about—what he fought for—still resonates with us today. His wisdom about cannabis, “the herb,” as he called it, to be a positive force in awakening creativity, conscience, and well-being is now embraced by many around the world. But obstacles remain.
Marley Natural is the world’s first global cannabis brand. Our mission is to champion Bob’s voice and his insight to help people realize the positive potential of cannabis for the mind, body, and spirit. Along the way, we want to help undo the suffering and injustice of cannabis prohibition around the world.
If you’re inspired by the healing power of nature, if you believe in a more just, peaceful and united future, take part in this historic movement as we build Marley Natural into a worldwide force for positive change. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime journey, and we hope you’ll join us."
Marley's daughter, Cedella Marley, said her father would welcome the licensed product. "My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb," she said. Privateer's Brendan Kennedy said Marley "someone who, in many ways, helped start the movement to end cannabis prohibition 50 years ago.
"It was just a natural fit between Bob Marley and this product. You know if you were to look for the most famous human being who ever walked the face of the earth related to cannabis, it would be Bob Marley."
Marley is one of a number of lucrative celebrities, alongside Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, who continue to earn considerable sums after their death thanks to their instantly recognisable status and huge social media footprint (Marley has over 73,000,000 likes on Facebook for instance). It was recently announced that Michael Jackson made $150m in 2014 alone through lucrative licensing deals and reissues.
