Radio One and 1Xtra has announced the axing of a number of hugely popular DJs, with Nihal, Mike Davies, Rob Da Bank, Jen Long, Ally McCrae, CJ Beatz, Crissy Criss and Robbo Ranx all set to depart.
In a statement on the axing, Radio One and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper has blamed budget cuts on the sackings, and spoke highly of the departing hosts - most of which were known for specialist shows and huge a massive devoted following.
"These cuts to our budget are hurting, it means I have had to make some tough choices and say goodbye to some friends and respected colleagues," says Cooper. "I believe these new schedules continue to innovate, reflect and celebrate the UK's youth and music culture."
In an Instagram message, Edith Bowman said that she had enjoyed every minute of her time on Radio One, writing:
"Thanks for all the messages and turn that frown upside down will you please. I have loved every minute (around 5.2million) of my time at Radio One. I will always have a huge passion for the station and will continue my BBC love affair for a long time to come."
Huw Stephens remains on Radio One, and will host a Monday-Wednesday new music show from 10pm - 1am and Alice Levine has secured a weekend afternoon show in the 1pm - 4pm slot.
Gigwise has participated in Bowman's Tuesday night Radio One Review show for over a year now, and our considered and professional opinion on her departure (and everyone to have been axed) from the station is that it sucks balls.
