Headliners The Prodigy closed the first night of Sonisphere 2014, on a day that also saw huge sets from Limp Bizkit, HIM, Gary Numan, Anthrax, Band Of Skulls and many more yesterday (Friday 4 July).
The sun shone down on a scorching day at the opening of the returning rock festival at Knebworth Park, with the crowd in full spirit by the time nu-metal stars Limp Bizkit played at explosive and hit-packed set.
So much so, that at one point frontman Fred Durst had to urge the crowd to calm down as the moshpit was getting rather rowdy. Still, he continued to express his admiration of English women and tear through the classics 'Rollin', 'My Way', 'My Generation' and a cover of Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name Of'. Flanked by terrifying guitarist, Wes Borland, it made for a pretty epic return.
Then came the main event - The Prodigy took to the main stage for a massive headline set that saw them burst into No.1 dance-rock classic 'Breathe' before airing 'Jetfighter' - an unreleased track from their upcoming new album. Another new track aired was 'Rock Weiler', which sounds awesome.
The biggest reactions were naturally saved for 'Omen', 'Smack My Bitch Up' and 'Take Me To The Hospital' - with Maxim geeing up the crowd by hollering "Where are my warriors?"
Closing with 'Their Law', The Prodigy left their mark on Knebworth, leaving fans hungry for more. Let's hope they were right then The Prodigy told Gigwise that their next album would be their best.
