She's recently made a brilliantly judged comeback, but La Roux has admitted that she "wanted to run away" when she first found fame five years ago.

The singer rose to fame in 2009 following the phenomenal success of singles 'In For The Kill' and 'Bulletproof', but told The Sun newspaper that she struggled to deal with her fame.

Following a North American tour, "I wanted to run away. I didn't want it to start again, and I did run away for a bit - I went on holiday. A very long holiday. The pressure was too much."

She added: "I'm not very good at being this shiny, showy person. I see music and performing as an art form but only when I want it to be an art form. The rest of the time I want to be left alone."

The singer also revealed that she suffered from panic attacks, which affected her singing on stage. "It was a problem for about three years," she explained. "It stopped me doing things in 2011. But after that I tried to work through it. I'd breath and meditate and sometimes I'd take medication. I'd have therapy too."

La Roux, who is now a solo artist after splitting from producer Ben Langmaid, is currently preparing to release her new album Trouble In Paradise, which is out on 21 July.
