Kendrick Lamar is poised to release his new album later this year - after making great progress of the record.
The 27-year-old rapper revealed details of the release in an interview with Complex. He confirmed that there are “30 to 40 new songs” recorded for the follow-up to his 2012 major label debut, Good Kid, M.A.A.D city.
Considering his debut gained classic status, the pressure is on for the difficult second album.
However, Lamar is focused on delivering. He said: “If I keep focusing on, ‘I need to make something better than good kid,’ it’s going to be just that."

Further indicating the progress he’s making, he confirmed there will be a “fourth quarter release”. Though, he’s still “flirting with ideas” for the cover art.
Furthermore, his manager added: “There were so many things I thought he was gonna talk about in good kid that he didn’t… All these other stories, shit that will blow your brain, have never been heard before because they’re just too personal.”
