An album of material by Lorde and her high school band, And They Were Masked, has appeared online. Check it out below.
The album, titled And They Were Masked, comes courtesy of Lorde fan-site Lorde Daily and is available to listen to and buy on BandCamp.
Recorded by a 16-year-old Ella Yelich O’Connor and her bandmates around the time of May 2012, the LP is described as 'future noir' and is said to be influenced by Fugazi, Battles, Mars Volta, and PJ Harvey. Naturally, the record wanders between some pretty heavy prog-rock moments, some cinematic soundscapes and some Nick Cave-esque darkness - with more than a few hints of the arena-sized power-pop balladry that Lorde would later become known for on Pure Heroine.
