St. Vincent has discussed her recent performance alongside the remaining members of Nirvana for their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, saying, "I wish that Kurt was alive."

The singer, real name is Annie Clark, performed 'Lithium' with the band for HBO, and later the same night performed the same song at a tiny bar in Brooklyn.

Speaking to The Guardian, the singer said: "I wish that Kurt was alive and no one else had to sing those songs." Of the band's decision to get female vocalists to fill in for Cobain's part, she added: "The thing that was cool to remember was that they came up in that Olympic scene in the late 80s and early 90s, which was really feminist and queer and punk, which kind of gets whitewashed in their history. This was a really nice way to honour that."

The singer also discussed growing up in a conservative suburb of Dallas, Texas, saying: "I always felt like a weirdo, and I was. It's a hotbed of... very conservative values. So even if you stick out by a thread, you're going to be perceived very much as a freak... So you have to own it... I made a place with music where I could exist and not feel weird and alien."

St. Vincent kicks off her UK tour later this month at The Junction, Cambridge, and will also be performing in Bristol, Leeds, Gateshead, Liverpool and London. For tickets and more information, click here.
