Israel set to lose £12 million as acts pull out of shows

Gig cancellations have cost Israel £12 million in revenue, after a number of artists pulled out of scheduled shows in the region due to the escalating conflict.

Amongst the acts that have pulled out of shows in Israel are Neil Young, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Cee Lo Green and Megadeth, the reasons for which vary from disagreement with Israel's action in Gaza to not wishing to place themselves in danger - reports The Guardian.

With the exception of a few temporary ceasefires, the Israel/Palestine conflict has been escalating over the past few months, as Israel continues its reaction to Hamas aggression by using rockets to kill thousands of Palestinians, most of whom were civilians.

Lady Gaga is scheduled to perform in September, but her tour producer Arthur Fogel has said that he is "watching the situation" to determine if the show will go ahead. Lana Del Rey is also set to appear in Israel on 20 August, and at the time of writing, that show is still going ahead.

Eran Arielli, CEO of concert producer and promoter Naranjan, estimates that between mid-July and mid-August, total industry losses in Israel will be $20 million - or £12 million.
