A coroner has ruled that Peaches Geldof's tragic death was caused by a heroin overdose, after an inquest.

An inquest today heard that the TV presenter, daughter of Bob Geldof and wife of former SCUM frontman Tom Cohen had been a heroin addict, having taken substitute drug methadone for two-and-a-half years before her death, reports the BBC

The Gravesend inquest also heard how police found 6.9g of heroin in the house where she died, but that there was no signs that she intended suicide or to take her own life.

Cohen told the hearing that Peaches had started taking heroin again in February 2014, and that he'd seen her flushing drugs she had hidden in their loft down the toilet. He added that he believed she had lied to him about passing weekly drug tests.

Police told the coroner's court that that "importation quality" heroin with a purity of 61% was found, that 'far exceeded' the 26% purity usually found at street level. Also found were 34 medical syringes, some containing traces of a brown coloured residue, alcohol wipes and cotton buds.

Coroner Roger Hatch concluded: "It's said that the death of Peaches Geldof-Cohen is history repeating itself but this not entirely so.

"By November last year she had ceased to take heroin as a result of the considerable treatment and counselling that she had received.  This was a significant achievement for her but for reasons we will never know prior to her death she returned to taking heroin."

Mr Hatch recorded a 'drugs related death' expressed his deepest sympathies to the Geldof family.

Police have launched an investigation into who supplied her with the drugs, but no arrests have yet been made.
