Manic Street Preachers have admitted that they may only make one more record before the end of their career, and so they want it to be "the biggest fucking rock record ever."

Speaking to NME following the release of their 12th studio album Futurology, the band revealed that their future may not be filled with new albums following Futurology's success.

"I think we all know deep in ourselves that there is only one record left to make," bassist Nicky Wire said, "and that's the biggest fucking rock record ever. It's Zeppelin, it's the Pistols, it's Generation Terrorists, but bigger."

He added: "That's a long way off. But I think we know that's what's left; to raise the scales to an enormous level."

The band also discussed politics during the interview, criticising Russell Brand for encouraging young people not to vote, and asserting that the rise of UKIP support stems from the failings of the coalition government.

Speaking to Gigwise about their plans for  the future, Wire said: "I just get the feeling that maybe next time around, that if we do make another record that it might just be the three of us," says Wire. "Just making as many gigantic rock riffs as humanly possible, maybe with Jimmy Page."

Frontman James Dean Bradfield added: "It's kind of hard to look beyond Rewind The Film and Futurology because we will have released two albums within the space of a year and I think we are pretty much aware that, let alone for our audience but for ourselves, that we've got to take another break after this.

"There might be a couple of small things that we do but it won't be a mainline Manics' release. We've got to try and find our own little make-believe world to try and conquer again before we can actually go forwards."

Manic Street Preachers are set to play V Festival next month, which is headlined by The Killers and Justin Timberlake. For more information, visit Gigwise tickets.
