Inuk throat Tanya Tagaq won this year's Polaris Music Prize for her album, Animism, and used her acceptance speech to encourage people to wear and eat seal "as much as possible."
Other artists nominated for the prestigious award, the ceremony for which took place in Toronto, included Arcade Fire, Drake, Timber Timbre and Mac DeMarco.
Tagaq was chosen as the winner by a group of musicians, broacasters and bloggers, and will receive a $30,000 prize.

At the end of her acceptance speech, Tagaq told the audience, "On a quick side note, people should wear and eat seal as much as possible, because if you imagine an indigenous culture thriving and surviving on a sustainable resource, wearing seal and eating it... It's delicious and there's lots of them and fuck PETA." She then held up a wristband made of seal fur, and received a smattering of cheers.
Canada has received a huge amount of criticism for its annual seal hunt, during which seal hunters kill up to 270,000 seal pups, many of which are not eaten and left to rot.
Tagaq is known internationally for her work with Bjork, including concert tours and on Bjork's 2004 album Medulla.
