Kraftwerk, The Smiths, Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Lou Reed, N.W.A and Sting have all made the shortlist to enter the 2015 Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame.
The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2015 have been revealed with the full collection of artists under consideration including Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Kraftwerk, Chic, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Marvelettes, the Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers.
In order to be eligible for this year's ballot, artists need to have released their first single or album in or before 1989. Unbelievably, this is the first appearance for Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bill Withers and Sting (although Sting has previously been inducted as a member of The Police). Lou Reed was previously inducted as a member of the Velvet Underground in 1996.
As in the previous two years, voting is open to fans on Rollingstone.com. Last year 1,390,504 votes were cast with Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt being selected by the public vote. The E Street Band, Brian Epstein and Andrew Loog Oldham were also honoured.
The winning artists will be inducted on 18 April 2015 at a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio.
