Former Radio 1 DJ and founder of Bestival, Rob Da Bank, is set to be honoured with the outstanding contribution award at this year's UK Festival Awards.
Bank, who formed the Isle Of Wight music festival ten years ago, will be recognised at the ceremony tonight (1 December) for his success in curating Bestival and its smaller counterpart Camp Bestival.
Despite its relative youth, Bestival has established itself as a summertimes staple since its inception in 2004, and attaracts around 80,000 people each year.
Regardless of his achievements though, Bank (whose real name is Robert Gorham) remains modest, saying: "I sort of feel like they’ve chosen the wrong person. I really think the UK festival market is the best in the world. Great Britain leads the field in festivals, so to be associated with those guys is amazing. I’m proud that Bestival and Camp Bestival and everything else we do is part of that."
This year's UK Festival Awards take place tonight (1 December) at The Roundhouse in London. Gigwise has sponsored the Best Headliner Of The Summer.
