The music and artwork of death metal band Cannibal Corpse has been banned in Russia, with a court ruling that it "could damage the mental health of children".
As RIA Novosti reports, last week saw Ufa’s Oktyabrsky district court approved a nationwide ban on their artwork and translations of their lyrics.
"Descriptions of violence, the physical and mental abuse of people and animals, murder and suicide", were explained as the reasoning behind the decision.
The Guardian reports that the ruling suggests that fans can apparently listen to the music, but not translate the lyrics or look at any accompanying illustrations or artwork. Naturally, that's pretty insane - so officials are figuring our how to enforce it.
It isn't the first time that Cannibal Corpse have faced censorship - with Germany and Australia both pushing injunctions on them, and with Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole saying in 1995 that they “undermined the character of the [American] nation”.
The band are yet to respond to the ruling.
