Pete Townshend will premiere a new version of the Who's classic Quadrophenia at the Royal Albert Hall. Tickets and more information below.

Conceived and written by Townshend in 1973, Quadrophenia became a mod classic on screen thanks to its ever-quoatable film version. The new "symphonised" take on Quadrophenia will be premiered on 5 July and was orchestrated by Rachel Fuller, Townshend's partner and collaborator who is also a professional composer, orchestrator and singer-songwriter in her own right.

It will be released on German classic label Deutsche Grammophon next summer. The premiere concert at the Royal Albert Hall on 5 July, starring Pete Townshend, and Alfie Boe, who sings the parts originally sung by Roger Daltrey. They will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and London Oriana Choir, conducted by Robert Ziegler.

Townshend said he hoped this version of Quadrophenia might help “reinvigorate” classical audiences, “[bringing] people who might not otherwise go to see a symphony orchestra perform without lights and fireworks and a movie screen”.

Speaking about the decision to use Alfie Boe rather than Daltrey, Townshend explained  “[Alfie] gives every performance his all ... He’s a funny man too, and good looking. The girls like him. I can’t wait to be on stage with him. I’m going to push him into the orchestra pit.”
