Clean Bandit have revealed that Band Aid 30 wasn't an entirely harmonious affair, describing some performers as 'total bastards'.
According to Contact Music, violinist Milan Neil Amin-Smith was quizzed asked the last time he encountered a real 'Clean Bandit'' - a Russian term meaning 'total bastard'. Milan replied: ''There were some of those at the Band Aid 30 recording. I couldn't possibly name anyone, but I suspect they'd be quite proud to be called a clean bandit.''
Cellist Grace Chatto recently defended the track in Loaded Magazine. ''I understand why people thought there are problems with Band Aid 30's politics, but the difference the song tried to make outweighs that. It's complicated, because I understand why people said no to being on the song. But Ebola is something that's been eradicated in Nigeria, and it's something Band Aid can have a massive influence on.''
Bob Geldof's charity single, the fastest selling of 2014 has recieved a mixed response from social media and the press. Ebola survivor Will Pooley told the Radio Times it was 'a bit cringeworthy', Damon Albarn described it as 'misguided', Emeli Sande apologised for the dodgy lyrics, Lily Allen called it 'smug' and many have chosen to donate to the fight against Ebola rather than indulge it. Despite this, it topped the charts, albeit before the man band Take That took over.
Such was the level of criticism that Sinead 'O Connor recently stepped up to defend the song. “I think everyone should shut the fuck up," she said. "If you didn't like the lyrics you shouldn't have agreed to sing the song."
