Bjork's record label One Little Indian have discussed the 'nightmare' of having Vulnicura leak online months ahead of release.

Earlier this week, Bjork's latest album leaked online months before its scheduled release. A few days later, the singer made the decision to officially release the album on iTunes.

When she announced the release of her album on her Facebook though, the singer made no reference to the music leak, instead going into great detail about the making of the album.

Now, Derek Birkett, the head of Bjork's record label One Little Indian, has opened up about the decision to rush-release the record following the leak.

Speaking to Billboard, Birkett said, "Overall, the advice was to do a pre-sale on iTunes with the instant gratification of two or three tracks. Bjork ideally wanted to get the whole record out, and to cut a very long story short, she made a mostly artistic decision that she wanted to get it all out. She felt very passionately about it."

Birkett ran into trouble with Amazon, after making a deal with them that Vulnicura could be made available as a free download to those who pre-ordered a physical copy, and subsequently making an exclusive deal with iTunes. As a result, Amazon pulled out of the deal, accusing One Little Indian of "engaging in a marketing scam to make Vulnicura No.1 on iTunes."

"Basically what happened is I panicked and gave it to iTunes because I told them, 'All these deals are going down and we're losing a lot of money'" Birkett explained. "I told them to put it on the cover and we'd give them the exclusive. Then I realized the political implications of giving iTunes the exclusive."

Birkett also told Billboard that Bjork would not be pursuing legal action against whoever posted the album online.
