Graham Coxon has said that it was becoming 'tedious' playing Blur shows without new material, and the 'intense' new album will fix this.
Speaking to South China Morning Post about the recording of The Magic Whip in Hong Kong, he revealed that the lack of new material left the band at odds with themselves and with their fans.
"We just couldn't have done any more shows without some new material," Coxon said. "It was getting tedious, and some of the fans were getting peeved about it."
Going on to discuss recording in Hong Kong, Coxon said: "Obviously the city is going to make its way into the music. A lot of the stuff guitar-wise reflected my anxiety at the intense environment of Hong Kong. And you have this kind of dislocation when you're not recording in your own city."
