Paloma Faith has slammed the BRIT Awards to 'ignoring' and 'suppressing' women in this year's categories - adding that she thinks should be nominated for Best British Album.
While Faith is nominated for Best British Female, she notes the imbalance in the 13 women up for awards against the 87 men at the London ceremony tonight (Wednesday 25 February, 2015).
"I was the only female in the top 10 selling albums," she told the Daily Mirror. "All the rest were men.
"I'm a bit miffed about the album category, but beggars can't be choosers and I am a beggar. I don't know why it isn't there.
Faith continued: "It's funny how everyone went absolutely nuts for about three years at how women are ruling the music industry. And then they were like, 'We've give them three years so let's suppress them for another 400'."
She also went on to discuss the pressure for women to oversexualise their image in order to sell records and be accepted by the mainstream: "It feels like there is a lot of celebration of women using their sexuality to sell their music as well. There are people like Blondie and Bjork who haven't stripped off and they've been celebrated.
"I have never been put under pressure to do it. I guess it's a social pressure, and you do or don't choose to adhere to it. I also don't think people would like it if I did it, because I don't have a body worth showing."
The BRIT Awards take place at The O2 in London tonight, with Kanye West, Royal Blood, Madonna, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift and more all set to perform.
