Former Sonic Youth member Kim Gordon has once again expressed her distaste of Lana Del Rey, following her comments in her memoir Girl In A Band.
In a new interview with MOJO Magazine, Gordon revisits her remarks she makes in her first boook. As previously reported, in one chapter she explains: "Today we have someone like Lana Del Rey, who doesn't know what feminism is, who believes it means women can do whatever they want, which, in her world, tilts toward self-destruction, whether it's sleeping with gross older men or getting gang-raped by bikers". In early editions of the book sent out to reviewers, Gordon went one step further, saying "If she really truly believes it's beautiful when young musicians go out on a hot flame of drugs and depression, why doesn't she just off herself?"
In her Mojo encounter, Gordon continues to express her dislike of the singer. She begins by saying "Lana Del Rey - I really don't like her", before adding "For one thing, she's a female Chris Isaak". Gordon's central complaint centres around a quote atttributed to Del Rey in which she states "I'm a feminist. I believe women can do anything they want." (It would appear the actual quote from The Fader interview is not far off: "My idea of a true feminist is a woman who feels free enough to do whatever she wants.")
Gordon is umimpressed with Del Rey's statement. "Yeah, of course. Anyone can do whatever they want. You still have to take responsibility for your personal actions as a female". She also clearly has no interest in Del Rey's portraying the melancholic victim, fated to suffer and die young. Gordon continued: "Does she really think young musicians should burn up in flames? It’s a dressing, a persona. I don’t like the whole self-destructive thing. That video for 'Ride' was so disturbing. I think she’s weird and affected."

Del Rey has announced that her fourth album will be titled Honeymoon and nine songs have already been written. Speaking to Billboard, Del Rey says the tracks are more similar in tone to her breakthrough Born To Die than the gloomy seduction of Ultraviolence.
"It's very different from the last one and similar to the first two, Born to Die and Paradise" she explains. "It's growing into something I really like. I'm kind of enjoying sinking into this more noirish feel for this one. It's been good." One suspects however that there may be much for Gordon to complain about. "I'm working on a new record now, and I have this one song, 'Music to Watch Boys To'. The title lends itself to a visual of shadows of men passing by, this girl's eyes, her face. I can definitely see things".
Later this year Del Rey and Courtney Love will embark on a joint tour of the US. For tickets click here.
