Debbie Harry has opened up on sex at the age of 69, revealing it's a subject that never really goes away.
In a new interview with The Telegraph, the Blondie singer agreed with the interviewer when she said sex is not something that just disappears in old age, replying "Not at all! And it’s funny, the Victorians were very enlightened about that. They are often viewed as being very conservative, but actually they were wild. And sex was pretty rampant. There were a lot of goings-on.”
The star has no plans to retire either, citing 82-year-old Yoko Ono as an inspiration and saying of her upcoming 70th birthday: “I guess I’m supposed to be shocked by it. And maybe I will be. But I’m amazed by ageing and how it happens differently for different people. All I can say is, I'm a lucky f— bitch!”
Her comments reflect similar ones by Madonna, who last week hit out at the culture of ageism. She said: "It's still the one area where you can totally discriminate against somebody," Madonna explained, "and talk shit. Because of their age. Only females, though. Not males. So in that respect we still live in a very sexist society."
"I don't understand. I'm trying to get my head around it. Because women, generally, when they reach a certain age, have accepted that they're not allowed to behave a certain way. But I don't follow the rules. I never did, and I'm not going to start."
