Iggy Azalea was the guest on LA radio station Power 106 this week, during which she said of her recent Grammy nomination: “I did not want to win that award. People hate me enough.”
The singer has received a significant amount of backlash over her short career, and has been accused of cultural appropriation by a number of her peers - most notably Azealia Banks.
As such, her Grammy nomination for best rap album was a contentious issue. The singer told Power 106’s presenters, "I did not want to win that award. My speech would have been like, ‘Fuck this. I don’t want it, take it. Get it away from me’…People already hate me enough. I do not need to be hated anymore.”
The award was eventually won by Eminem for The Marshall Mathers LP 2 - and Azalea admitted she found the muted reaction surprising: “I found it to be kind of ironic. It was because I’m white, therefore I’m appropriating culture, but then Eminem won it - who’s white and won it many times - and they didn’t seem to say anything about that. I suspect it was just because they dislike me.”

The singer recently quit Twitter after coming back from holiday and discovering that “it’s shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite.” She added that the internet “is the ugliest reflection of mankind there is."
