Antemasque, a band comprised of former members of Mars Volta and At the Drive In, have sparked outrage after hitting fans at a festival with a series of objects including a kettle and a jug of boiling water.
Taking the stage at Westfest in New Zealand alongside the likes of Soundgarden and Fall Out Boy, the band's high intensity performance drew some criticism. One fan told the New Zealand newspaper that, "Cedric threw a plastic kettle full of boiling hot water towards me and my friends.
"We were standing about four-five metres back. I threw my hand up to catch it before it collided with my friend's face ... this bruised my hand and then splashed hot water all over him and my face. It bloody hurt. My friends arm went all burny pink."

According unnamed fan told the Herald that: "Whenever the vocalist picked up an item you never knew if it was going to land on you, it was quite on edge. He actually threw his microphone at the crowd at the end but since it was on a cord it landed just off the stage." Others who witnessed the set complained that the set was shorter than usual, although it is worth noting that many fans even after being hit by objects, stayed to watch the rest of the show.
Westfest are apparently inviestigating the incident but have made no comment so far.
Antemasque are set to play Coachella in April.
