Sam Smith's Comic Relief single has secured him another No.1 single - and ensured that his album beat Madonna into second place.
Ahead of his huge UK tour, Smith's collaboration with John Legend 'Lay Me Down' for Comic Relief mannaged to achieve sales of over 100,000.
As The Official Charts Company reports, while it is Smith's fourth No.1 single, it actually is John Legend's first time at the top of the UK singles chart. Proceeds from this new version of 'Lay Me Down' have contributed to the £78m raised by this year's Comic Relief.

The rest of the top five makes for familiar reading, with Years & Years' 'King' remaining at No.2, with Ellie Goulding and Rihanna/Kanye/Macca making up the rest of the top five. The second hightest new entry is a truly terrible Flo Rida track 'GDFR'. Mumford & Sons surprise new single, the Coldplay channeling 'Believe', released earlier this week enters at No.20.
In the album chart, Smith's dominance continues. In The Lonely Hour achieved its eighth week at the peak of the summit, making Smith the first male solo artist to achieve six different spells at No.1. Madonna scores this week’s highest new entry with Rebel Heart at No.2
As well as his forthcoming festival dates (including a spot at Disclosure's WildLife festival) Sam Smith will play the following dates but act quickly - this is going to be your last chance to see him in anything smaller than a stadium.
