Kendrick Lamar's incendiary To Pimp A Butterfly has topped the UK album chart following it's surprise release last week.

Following its surprise release last week, the album had already broken Spotify records with over 9.6 million streams in one day and has now topped the UK album charts. According to Official Charts company, it beat Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour by 572 chart sales (and also marks how far Lamar has come since his debut album peaked at No.16). Lamar becomes the first rapper since since 2013 to top the albums chart thanks to sales of 29,695.

In Gigwise's review of the album, we declared: "The follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d city, sets the bar for the entire year in hip-hop - as Kanye tinkers endlessly with So Help Me God, the standard has been raised yet again. Kendrick Lamar’s third studio record is a thrilling, defiant statement of intent - an album so enormous that, as fellow MC Pharoahe Monch pointed out on Twitter, it nearly broke iTunes." In terms of the rest of the album chart, Mark Knofler and Van Morrison both entered the charts at No.3 and No.5 respectively. Marina and the Diamonds stunning album FROOT came in at No.10 while the physical release of Bjork's Vulnicura entered at 14. Modest Mouse Strangers To Ourselves came in at No.28.
