Metallica's Kirk Hammett has revealed that he lost an iPhone containing around 250 riff ideas, and never recovered it.
Speaking on The Jasta Show podcast, the band's guitarist explained that he lost the phone six months ago. "I lost my iPhone with 250 musical ideas," he told host Jamey Jasta, "and I was crushed. It didn't get backed up."
He continued, "When it happened, I was bummed for about two or three days... I'm still looking for it to this day... It still might turn up, I'm hoping that it will."

In an attempt to rationalise the incident, Hammett said, "I just chalked it down to, 'Maybe it just wasn't meant to be,' and I'll just move forward with it... All you musicians out there who use your phone, make sure it's backed up, right?"
The band recently revealed that their tenth album, the follow-up to 2008's Death Magnetic, is about 25% complete - so there's still time for that missing phone to turn up.
