Canadian fisheries minister Gail Shea has hit out at Morrissey over his criticism of the country's annual seal cull, calling the musician "brainwashed".
Morrissey released a statement on Friday (April 18) slamming the seal hunt, calling it "greedy and barbaric", and suggesting Gail Shea should "place herself amongst the tens of thousands of grey-coated harp seals that will be slaughtered within the next few weeks" if she considers the seal cull to be humane.
Now, Shea has hit back at the musician, claiming he has been "brainwashed" by Hollywood life and "radical environmentalists."
"Mr Morrissey and his Hollywood buddies have been brainwashed by decades of propaganda from fringe animal rights groups and radical environmentalists," she wrote in a letter to Canada.com.
"They should take the time to actually consider the facts, or talk to the people whose lives are affected by the seal hunt … but that might be too difficult to do from the ivory towers of Hollywood," Shea added.
Famously outspoken on social and political issues, Morrissey is probably furiously penning a rebuttal to Shea as we type this. We're slightly scared for her.
