Formerly the drummer with Scots art-punk noiseniks Fickle Public, Lewis Gale has teamed up with fellow highlander Gordon Skene to create an uproariously Technicolour explosion of Pastels-esque indie with dancier beats. The boy-girl vocals and parping trumpets recall fellow Scots The Pastels or Belle & Sebastian until, at the 2-minute mark, a huge drumbeat kicks in and 'The Was' is transformed into what Tim Westwood would rightly call a straight-up club banger.
The sheer joy of it all recalls The Go! Team or Polyphonic Spree, but there's a dark edge too. Born out of depression it may be, but Make Model have stumbled upon the perfect injection of fun to keep you smiling as the nights draw in.
