The Trail of Dead don’t do things by halves. Not only are there two drummers pounding their respective kits, but guitars are smashed mid-set, leading us through blizzards of beer bottles to the very core of their sonic death-thundery.
They’re a band who hate the press, but not in a whingey ‘Mister-Writery’ way, more like a moody-about-to-kill-you type way. And quite blatantly they don’t give the tiniest fuck. Exciting? Monstrous? Yes, both… but… something more... By chanting the names of Egyptian Gods (‘Isis! Ra!’), cranking the amps up to "Death by horned badger-rape" and looking at us real funny, TOD take the next step… into the abyss of vacuous fear. Anyone remember this? It's called Heavy Metal.
Tonight, new album ‘Worlds Apart’ forms much of the set, whirling around with a mightiness that could decapitate a thousand Metallica fans. The rest is an indistinguishable onslaught of spitting, screaming, pounding, limb-mushing noise that quite honestly, really, really hurts. And yet they’re so gleeful. Conrad looks desperate to leap into the front row, clout you mindlessly about the head with his guitar, garrotte your girlfriend and shit on your pale, limp corpses. While Kevin just wants to kill.
Like we said, these guys don’t muck about.
