Everything about Katy B is exciting. The 24-year-old South Londoner burst onto the scene in 2011 churning out hit after hit from her Mercury Nominated debut album 'On A Mission'. Now, she is back and it seems like her time away was really spent living and growing up.
That's not to say her previous work was bad. Quite the opposite in fact. It was however much 'younger' record than this, her second release.
This time around we are given instead a harmonious divide between the dancing the night away with friends or spending the night alone, probably crying. The latter describes the moments on this album where Katy successfully shows off her more mature side, as seen on current single 'Crying For No Reason'. As she belts 'I felt strong but am I breaking down?' it's impossible to not be blown away by Katy's simultaneous strength in vocal performance running alongside her lyrical vulnerability.
Even on tracks that do provide the faster urban flavour, Katy does provide some darker moments. Take for example 'All My Lovin'' which has a criminally cool groove that is destined to by spun by DJs across the country, but also has a slightly moodier tone to it than her previous work. 'Aaliyah' featuring Jessie Ware also showcases this atmosphere of dance music that can be a little bit more mystical and elusive.
Nevertheless, upbeat dance moments such as '5AM' (a single which really deserved to top the charts) are as infectious as you'd want them to be, while songs like 'Play' and 'Everything' give you incredible dance songs to listen to on repeat in 2014.
