Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley began their rock partnership playing their music live at house parties in Brisbane, Australia. At Dingwalls in Camden, the musical foundations of the duo became ever-present as raw adolescent energy screamed from screeching strings straight into the ears of the crowd. A little taste of Australian youth was unleashed...and it was incredibly loud. If you ever needed earplugs in your life, now would be the time.
The duo tore the room apart in a set of sweaty thrash pop covered in overgrown hair right from the off with ‘No Sleep’. With the likes of ‘The Mess Up’ amidst the enthralling tempo of the set, the boys proved they aren’t solely reliant on pure speed but can generate a deep sound on demand. They also showed with the more ambient ‘Northern Lights’ that they are capable of a wider vocal range from both members and demonstrated the multiple personalities of Parsons’ guitar.
Flailing airborne legs were in abundance as the set increased in momentum towards the end of the set, hungry fans surfed across their friends and strangers alike. The boys out to get the crowd pumped shared a bottle of tequila with their sweaty friends before blitzing into a chain of high- octane singles.
Ripping through the air came the explosive ‘Gina Works at Hearts’ before the pair left the stage, peaking the otherwise ever-increasing energy. Failure to reappear on the stage after the crowd’s pleas for more, and seemingly dissatisfied, left the evening a little lacklustre, but luckily the band salvaged what they could of the set by ending on a chorus hook which rings through your ear drums until the early morning.
