Grunge is alive and kicking in 2014 but don't just take our word for it, listen to the new single from Wild Smiles, 'Never Wanted This', for proof of how damn good it is sounding.
The Winchester band made waves in 2013 with the release of their double a-side release 'Sweet Sixteen' / 'Tangled Hair' and their self-titled EP, picking up support from the likes Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Steve Lamaqc, Lauren Laverne and many more radio taste-makers.
Wild Smiles have now premiered their brand new track on Gigwise, and the band are sounding stronger than ever. The influence of the 90s grunge scene is evident in 'Never Wanted This', with harmonious feedback and snarling, fuzzy vocals, reminiscent of Foo Fighters of yore. The band's influences don't stop there, however, with elements of Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, Pulp and The Ramones to be found here - and across previous releases.
The band also deal with some pretty major issues in their tracks, discussing social disillusion in the lyrics of the track, and rejecting calls for the youth of today to settle for a 9-to-5 existence and becoming nothing more than 'a monkey in a suit'.
