One of the biggest surprises of last night's Oscars came when Lady Gaga took to the stage to perform a medley of songs from The Sound Of Music - receiving a standing ovation in the ceremony.
Stripped of all of her usual OTT eccentricities and quirks, Gaga stole the show simply by letting the power of her voice and the sheer class of the soundtrack shine through. Standing elegant and strong on stage and backed by an orchestra and backing choice (rather than the usual dancing octopuses and such) she impressed the millions of viewers - including Dame Julie Andrews herself, who was in attendance.
Gaga powered through the classics 'The Hills Are Alive', 'My Favorite Things', 'Edelweiss', and 'Climb Ev’ry Mountain' - leading Andrews herself to issue the message: "Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute, it really warmed my heart."
