Having written for Britney Spears and collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Sophie Stern knows better than most the secret to a killer hook.
This summer Stern is stepping into the spotlight with her own musical project Sophie and the Bom Boms, led by the post-MIA agit-pop stomper 'Power'. Currently in the studio recording her debut album, she talked Gigwise through her favourite festival picks for this season.
Lovebox
"Sorry but I’m Cali grown, so you gotta see Cyprus Hill and Snoop. Then don’t even see anyone else. Just go home, get snacks and watch White Girls or Dazed and Confused."
The Great Escape
"Jack Garratt is amazing - I love his style. Lil Simz I saw at a party in London and she threw down! Definitely go see her."
Wild Life
"Nas: because he’s one of the greatest to ever live. I love MNEK, he can write a song like nobody's business - and his jackets are always on point. And Earl Sweatshirt will be bananas."
Glastonbury
"Lionel Richie. It’s one of those things you can tell your grandkids you saw Lionel. You’ll be watching history. I saw him live once and he played all night long literally all night long….an hour rendition of the song but it never got old. He’s one of my favourites."
V festival
"This is THE feel good festival. You might cry a little. maybe laugh a little. You probably have to see Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding because they’re beyond and you’ll probably hold your friends and feel emo. Jessie Ware is dope. Then go over and dance in the dance tent: all those DJs will bring it: you'll feel like life is expanding and you could dance forever. Then I would just stay in the comedy tent for awhile. But obviously, the whole reason to really go is to see Tom Jones. Let's be real….."
