Urban soul has seen a huge resurgence in recent years, with the likes of The Weeknd bringing grit back to the scene, while the likes of Raleigh Ritchie and Joel Compass have already made a name in the UK with their hard-edged, no-holds barred beats and lyrics.
Newcomer Leon Else sits perfectly alongside such artists, as his new EP, River Full Of Liquor (which has premiered in full today on Gigwise), demonstrates perfectly. Listen below.
Opener 'River Full Of Liquor' (the lead single from the EP) is a dark tale of addiction and abuse, and has already made waves with influential tastemakers, pin-pointing Else as a major new talent. 'Cheap Hotel' is an offbeat ballad which showcases not only Else's stunning vocals, but also the innovative production techniques at play on the scene. Live track 'Messed Up' could rival some of Sam Smith's most powerful moments, with Else showcasing a flawless vocal delivery and the remixed version of 'River Full Of Liquor' is, well, the same as the other one, but with a rap on it.
