Jack White live-streamed his last show for a "long time" on streaming service Tidal last night, where he told the crowd, "Music is not disposable and worthless."
The musician performed at the Fargo Theatre in North Dakota, the final night of a five-show acoustic tour of the five states in which he had yet to play live - Idaho, Alaska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wyoming.
The set was hosted by Tidal, the newly launched celebrity-endorsed streaming service, of which Jack White is a part owner, alongside main owner Jay Z, Rihanna, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Madonna and more.
However, the service has received mixed publicity since it launched. Though it boasts that it gives 75% of its revenue back to artists, as opposed to the standard 50% - at $20 a month it costs far more than its competitors, and has been described as a way for the richest artists to get richer. Jay Z has since taken to Twitter to dispute this.
During his set, which was streamed online to Tidal users, White told the crowd, "If you feel strongly about music and love music, tell people that. Tell people that music is sacred. Music is not disposable and worthless, it shouldn't be treated that way."
Following his North Dakota show, Jack White will be "taking a break from performing live for a long period of time."
