Brandon Flowers has claimed that 'Mr Brightside', one of the Killers biggest songs, would not be a hit today thanks to changes in the record industry.
Speaking to Shortlist, Flowers explained that the current way of radio stations deciding playlist would have meant that the biggest hit from Hot Fuss wouldn't have received the exposure it needed. “Record deals have changed. The radio now only looks at the charts. They play a song a few times, see how well it’s doing on iTunes and if it’s not doing well, they’ll stop promoting it. That would have been a disaster for The Killers."
Flowers said this would have prevented big songs being given a second chance at success. "Mr Brightside was released twice. It didn’t go down well first time. It wouldn’t have the opportunity in the current climate."

Flowers is currently streaming his second solo album The Desired Effect ahead of its release next week. The album is currently streaming via iTunes, which has been teased by a smattering of massive singles including 'Can't Deny My Love', 'I Still Want You', I Can Change' and 'Lonely Town'.
The album follows Flowers' solo album Flamingo released in 2010, in between that he has released a new Killers album 'Battle Born'. It features guest vocals from The Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant, and Danielle from Haim as well as percussion from Killers bandmate Ronnie Vannucci.
Flowers will embark on a massive European tour next week stopping off for two nights at London's Brixton Academy with support from Joywave. Full dates are below. For tickets and more information, visit here.
