Scott Stapp has opened up about his episode last year which made headlines after he posted a video of himself where he was distressed and claimed to be 'under attack.'

The Creed singer explains that he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in a new interview with People Magazine, and that the episode was brought on by his drug and alcohol abuse.

"It was hard to process...there’s a stigma associated with it," said Stapp. "But [wife] Jaclyn kept telling me, ‘Embrace it. We love you.’ It became a big sign of relief, because finally, we had an answer."

He also revealed what was going through his mind in the events of last year, which led him to thinking he was in the CIA and was ordered to kille President Barack Obama: “I was hallucinating. I drove around the United States for a month, following an angel that I saw on the hood of my car.

"In my delusional thinking, I thought my family was involved in ISIS and that millions of dollars had been taken from me to support terrorism...all of it was nonsense. I was out of my mind."

Stapp is now taking medication at home in Florida and is partaking in a 12-step programme, he also considers himself "lucky to be alive" and is focused on getting better: “Nothing is more important than my sobriety.”
